APRIL IS WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH
World Autism Awareness Day is on April 2nd but like many, we celebrate the entire month of April to increase awareness of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), families who support someone with autism and the need to embrace neurodiversity and inclusion in our community.
Here are the facts:
1 in 66 children aged 5-7 are diagnosed with autism in Canada
Approximately 1-2% of the Canadian population is impacted by ASD
135,000 Ontarians are on the autism spectrum
The rate of ASD diagnoses is growing
There is no one-size-fits-all diagnosis for ASD, hence the term spectrum
