Statement on discovery at residential school in Kamloops BC

We're deeply saddened by the news out of Kamloops last week.

Last week "the bodies of the 215 children were uncovered during a search of the grounds at the site of the former residential school near the city of Kamloops, B.C." http://bit.ly/cbc-res

This is a reminder of unacceptable injustice for Canadians and systematic issues that still need to be addressed

The care and protection of children and respect for their cultural identities are of the utmost importance. We need to grieve and we need to also work for change in support of all Indigenous people, especially as it relates to the care and support of children.

As we look forward to June and National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21st as a nation we need to honour our Indigenous people.
