Autism Awareness & Acceptance Events you should know about

Expanding our knowledge about autism, gaining insight from autistic voices and spending time in this vibrant community are one of the best ways to understand it better. Here are some events that span everything from celebrations to information-rich conferences you can participate in to get to know the autistic community.

World Autism Acceptance Month: Every April, autism acceptance month is recognized in globally. Many organizations hold events and activities throughout the month to raise awareness about autism and promote understanding and acceptance of individuals on the autism spectrum.

World Autism Awareness Day: The United Nations World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognized day observed on April 2nd every year to raise awareness about autism

Autism Awareness Month: October awareness month is recognized in Canada although at our agency we recognize it in April with the global autism community. Many organizations hold events and activities throughout the month to raise awareness about autism and promote understanding and acceptance of individuals on the autism spectrum.

The Au-Some Conference: This is an annual event hosted by Autism Canada, a national organization that provides resources and support to individuals on the autism spectrum, their families, and caregivers. The conference brings together a range of experts, advocates, and individuals with lived experience to share knowledge and insights about autism and related topics.

Neurodiversity Week (March 13-10, 2023) is an annual event that celebrates the diversity of human minds and aims to promote the acceptance and inclusion of individuals with different neurological conditions. The week typically includes a range of events and activities, such as workshops, panel discussions, and social gatherings, that highlight the strengths and talents of neurodiverse individuals. The goal of Neurodiversity Week is to raise awareness about the importance of accommodating and celebrating neurodiversity, and to help reduce stigma and discrimination towards individuals with conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and others.

Autistic Pride Day: This international event is celebrated annually on June 18th and is aimed at promoting acceptance and celebrating neurodiversity. Many Canadian cities hold events and activities to mark the day, including parades, workshops, and social gatherings where attendees can learn from autistic individuals and gain a better understanding of their experiences.

Spectrum Productions Film Festival - This is an annual film festival in Montreal, Canada that showcases films made by neurodiverse individuals. The festival aims to promote inclusion and understanding of neurodiversity, and to give a platform for those who are often underrepresented in the film industry. The festival also offers workshops and training programs for neurodiverse individuals who are interested in learning about film and media production.
